Usain Bolt is maaad rich: Check it out… PDF Print E-mail

After vunjaing the World record in the 100m, 200m, 4 x 100m relay in Beijing, Usain bolt was the jina on everyone’s lips. From a simple, unassuming sprinter, Bolt immediately inked endorsement deals with Gatorade, Swiss watchmaker Hublot and Virgin Media after Beijing.

Bolt earned $20.3 million (Ksh1.7billion) over the last 12-months from prize money, bonuses, appearance fees and sponsors. Bolt has some way to go to challenge LeBron James and Kobe Bryant in terms of earnings, but his income is more than 20 times what other elite athletes typically make in a year! I bet Kemboi is not dancing reading this now!

Bolt’s biggest paycheck comes courtesy of Puma, with whom he has a deal worth $9 million annually. In contrast, a massive Nike deal for a football or baseball player is a mere $1 million.

While prize money is small, Bolt’s ultimate running payday is often huge thanks to appearance fees. If you want Usain bolt to appear in a track event he will start negotiations at $200,000 and can reach $350,000 for a big meet! No need to say, he will not be gracing Kasarani anytime soon!

Bolt commands the huge sums because he guarantees a sellout crowd when competing. The 100-meter final was the hottest ticket going into the London Olympics. London 2012 organizers received more than one million requests for tickets for the event with prices set at $1,130 (Ksh 96,000). That is about 10k for second that you get to witness Bolt running!

In addition, Soul Electronics signed a deal with Bolt this year and he will develop his own line of headphones for the company. Dr. Dre and 50 Cent eat your sorry hearts out!

Julius Yego makes it for Olympics Javelin final PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator on Thursday, 09 August 2012 06:15

When Muchene heard that Kenya was fielding a javelin thrower in the Olympics, it became a bit of a joke here. But Julius Yego could just have the last laugh as he qualified for the Javelin finals, finishing 9th with a throw of 81.81m...of course a new national record.

Yego was forced to use YouTube as part of his training seeing that Kenya had no clue what a Javelin was. He did however got to train some more in Finland before the Olympics and that he is in the finals is an amazing achievement.

The 23yr old policeman was the smallest in the field, but he threw a might final throw in the qualifying heat to make it to the last 12. The final is this weekend, and we'll be supporting you Mr Yego.

Valencia's football star burns brand new ferrari PDF Print E-mail

Eva Banega showed that European footballers really do have money to burn after he burnt his Ferrari to a crisp. The Valencia star was taking his Ferrari 360 Modena out for the first time. As he was driving off, a fire started in the bonnet of the car. Banega then ran to his nearby training ground to get a bucket of water.

By the time he came back, his Ferrari was a proper bonfire and beyond the bucket of water. All that was left was a shiny new front and smouldering back-end. The car,  worth about 25m, was said to have had some sort of short circuit.

But Bonega has had his share of bad luck with cars. In Feb, he broke his ankle after he forgot to put his handbrake on his car at a petrol station and it rolled backwards on him! It must be a sign. Just take the bus!

Dirk Nowitzki, the Dallas Mavericks power forward and the 2011 Finals Most Valuable Player, married his Kenyan fiancee Jessica Olsson in Kenya over a traditional ceremony. Dirk dressed up and presented cows as dowry.

Dirk's hot wife Jessica Olsson is actually a pointy with a Kenyan mother and a Swedish father. There'll be a second ceremony back in Germany later on for Dirk's family and friends.

Dumb dumb Ronaldinho PDF Print E-mail

Ronaldhino

Ronaldhino did the unthinkable at a press conference to promote his new team, Atletico Mineiro, of which Pepsi is a sponsor. Ronaldhino decided to quench his thirst with a sip of pepsi yet his endorsed by Coca-Cola. Dumb dumb guy! Now he will loose out on the $750,000 sponsorship deal with Coke which was to run through 2014.

“The fact that the player has appeared with a can of Pepsi was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” Coca-Cola marketing chief Marcelo Pontes told the newspaper. “The sponsorship had become embarrassing.”
